News & Events
- Every year, approximately 5,000 homeless young people will die because of assault, illness, or suicide while trying to survive.
- 46% of homeless youth escaped a home where they suffered physical abuse.
- 17% left because of sexual abuse.
- Children living on the streets are more likely to engage in “survival sex” – trading sex to gain food, clothing, drugs, money, or just for a safe place to sleep at night.
That's why YASS works day and night to provide shelter and support for kids who have endured lives of abuse, neglect, and homelessness. In 2016, YASS provides services to more than 130 of these kids in the Metro Area. Our Residential and Youth Outreach Center programs cared for 176 homeless kids, and Yass Street Outreach teams served an additional 300 homeless and at-risk youth on the streets in the year 2016.
